Talascend is seeking qualified candidates for a Sr. Engineer position in closure structures with a leading automotive manufacturer located in Newark, CA.
Overview : Responsible for designing and developing automotive closure structure parts and assemblies such as hoods, fenders, doors, decklids, and liftgates, with a preference for aluminum or composite materials, including knowledge of hinges and kinematic requirements, from concept through production.
Responsibilities :
- Design at system and component levels with attention to performance, size, weight, durability, and cost optimization.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to integrate multiple systems efficiently.
- Work with stakeholders across departments like Vehicle Safety, Dynamics, NVH, Durability, Manufacturing, and Design Studio to create world-class designs.
- Interpret analysis results from CAE to guide and evolve designs.
- Coordinate with manufacturing for process sequencing and quality assurance.
- Engage with Purchasing, Supplier Quality, and tool suppliers on tool buy-offs and component changes.
- Create testing plans and coordinate physical tests to validate designs and meet performance targets.
- Analyze section properties, materials, and manufacturing processes through benchmarking.
- Manage virtual engineering and physical validation testing activities.
- Communicate effectively with suppliers and provide direction and negotiation as needed.
- Determine tolerances using GD&T standards.
- Travel domestically and internationally as required.
Qualifications :
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution or equivalent automotive closure experience.5+ years of experience in automotive closure systems at OEM or supplier level.Proven track record in system integration and working with Class A surface data.Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as CATIA V5 / V6.Hands-on experience in prototype and production assembly.Knowledge of system and supplier selection, manufacturing processes, and engineering change management.Strong analytical skills with experience in tools like ANSYS, OptiStruct, MATLAB, ADAMS.Experience from concept to production lifecycle development.Understanding of manufacturing processes like casting, stamping, extrusions, and joining.We thank all applicants for their interest.
