We are seeking experienced Two Board-Certified Hematology-Oncology Physicians to provide comprehensive hematology and oncology services to Veterans at the Providence VA Medical Center in Providence, RI. This is a full-time, on-site position providing expert consultation and treatment to patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including comprehensive on-call coverage for after-hours care.

Responsibilities
Clinical Care (90% of time) :
- Provide expert consultation and treatment to patients in inpatient and outpatient clinic settings with approximately 5 hours of inpatient coverage and 26 hours of bookable clinical time per week
- Evaluate, triage, and prioritize consults from primary care and other services for outpatient hematology-oncology consultations with approximate case load of 2 patients per hour during bookable clinical time
- Obtain comprehensive medical histories, conduct thorough physical examinations, order and evaluate appropriate laboratory testing, and develop treatment plans for hematology and oncology patients
- Coordinate medical management and care with Primary Care providers and other personnel in a multidisciplinary healthcare delivery system
- Provide discharge education and follow-up instructions coordinated with next care setting for all hematology-oncology clinical patients
- Establish mechanisms for notification of test results in accordance with VHA Directive 1088, Communicating Test Results to Providers and Patients
- Follow all established medication policies and procedures without providing sample medications to patients
Administrative Duties (10% of time) :
Participate in continuous quality improvement activities and committee participation as required by VA facility Chief of Service or Chief of StaffAttend required staff meetings including Medical Service Staff meeting (monthly, 26 hours annually), Tumor Board (weekly, 52 hours annually), Cancer Committee (ad hoc, up to 10 hours annually), and Lung Tumor Board Conference (quarterly, 3 hours annually)Complete appropriate QM / PI documentation pertaining to all procedures, complications, and outcomes of examinationsPerform administrative tasks as assigned such as peer review and Ongoing Professional Practice EvaluationsFollow established patient safety and infection control standards, document patient safety events in medical records, disclose to patients, and submit entries in VA Patient Safety Reporting System within 24 hoursQualifications

Provide hematology-oncology on-call services during all hours when facility clinic is closed including evenings, weekends, and holidaysWeeknight On-Call : Monday-Thursday , 5 : 00 PM - 8 : 00 AM (208 shifts annually)Weekend On-Call : Friday 5 : 00 PM - Monday 8 : 00 AM (52 shifts annually)Federal Holiday On-Call : 24-hour coverage (12 shifts annually)Must be available within 15 minutes by phone for consultations with VA residents and physiciansMust be available on-site within 60 minutes when requiredSchedule Requirements :
Primary Schedule : Monday-Friday, 8 : 00 AM - 4 : 30 PM (40 hours per week per FTE)
On-Call Coverage Schedule : - Weeknight On-Call : Monday-Thursday, 5 : 00 PM - 8 : 00 AM - Weekend On-Call : Friday 5 : 00 PM - Monday 8 : 00 AM - Federal Holiday On-Call : 24-hour coverage
Federal Holidays : Available to work federal holidays as needed
