The Data Center Engineer will be responsible for leveraging operational best practices across the firm's US data centers and corporate office spaces to deliver a consistent and high-quality level of service to its clients. This role primarily entails physical installation of hardware and its requisite infrastructure connectivity, the ability to communicate effectively with external vendors and internal stakeholders, and a working knowledge of Data Center Information Management (DCiM) tools and processes.
The principal location of work will be at the Edison, NJ, DC location, but you will be expected to support work at other data centers and corporate offices in the NJ / NY / CT metro area. The typical work week will span Monday – Friday, but you can expect to occasionally work beyond normally scheduled hours to support critical projects or bridge coverage gaps.
Responsibilities
- Installation of the firm's hardware assets in data center and corporate office technology rooms
- Asset management within the firm's DCIM toolset
- Execution of hardware repairs on various IT platforms in coordination with external vendors and internal stakeholders
- Execution and / or oversight of scheduled changes within the firm's data centers and office spaces, in a timely manner without undue risk to the firm
- Project management in remote DCs leveraging local site resources, while remaining accountable for the work performed
- Regular and clear communication with managers, peers, and team members throughout the organization
- Identification of gaps in Data Center operational documentation and initiative to create documentation for use by the global Data Center team
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in Infrastructure TechnologyExperience with rack integration of servers, storage equipment, network switches, and other appliancesThorough understanding of DC connectivity, including cabling, optics, & carrier servicesKnowledge of rack PDU monitoring, management, and critical thresholdsExperience with DCIMThorough understanding of hot and cold aisle dynamics, and IT equipment air-flow requirementsBasic understanding of OSI layers 1, 2, and 3 and network-layer provisioning / troubleshootingAbility to translate Data Center requirements into effective solutionsAbility to implement detail-oriented designsBenefits (w2)
