About the Role

The Mental Health Therapist working in the Community and Residential CFTSS program is responsible for providing an array of direct clinical services for youth across both community-based and residential programs and settings. In the Community CFTSS program, settings include home, school, and community / office settings. In the Residential CFTSS programs, the setting is program-based office space. Overall responsibilities include screening, diagnosis, treatment planning, and therapy services through the Children and Family Treatment and Supports Services (CFTSS) program. The community-based program is provided under OMH auspices, while the residential programs are under OCFS. The Mental Health Therapist is expected to provide both in-person and virtual services.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide trauma informed, evidence-based individual, family, and group therapy for cases as indicated.
  • Complete Licensed Evaluations (Assessments) to identify the child / youth’s behavioral strengths and weaknesses, determine medical necessity to continue services and identify other potential services needed, provide a diagnosis, and
  • Develop Treatment Plans describing the child / youth’s conditions, detailing the scope of services to be provided, expected outcomes, frequency, and duration of treatment
  • Provide Crisis Intervention Activities for child / youth experiencing psychiatric, behavioral, or situational distress
  • Provide consultation with non-licensed professionals who also work with persons supported.
  • Prepare appropriate and timely written documentation of all clinical services delivered in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Participate in Family Treatment Conferences and monthly Treatment Team Meetings

Your Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from accredited program in social work, mental health counseling or creative arts therapy or doctoral degree in psychology.
  • Must have one of the following New York State professional licenses OR have a limited permit with one of the following degrees :
  • o Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)

    o Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT)

    o Licensed Psychoanalyst

    o Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT)

    o Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW)

    o Licensed Psychologist (Ph.D. or Psy.D.)

  • Training and at least 2 years of experience in providing therapy / treatment services for at risk youth and families.
  • Two years' experience in Cognitive behavioral Therapy or other evidence-based psychotherapy interventions preferred.
  • Valid New York State Driver’s License Preferred
  • Bilingual / Spanish a plus.
  • Computer proficiency, excellent writing skills. Experience with documentation in an electronic record a plus.

    Work Environment :

    This position will require travel to various agency locations, public school sites, and families’ homes in various locations in the five boroughs of New York City.

    Position Type / Expected Hours of Work : This is a full-time position. You must be available for flexible hours including evenings and possible weekends, shift hours vary depending on the needs of the child and family. Work hours options are 11pm-7pm or 12pm-8pm. This position is based at a designated Rising Ground location but will require travel to other agency and non-agency locations for service provision and meetings.

  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Ability to work in-person in New York City (NY) for at least 3 days or more per week.
  • Ability to travel to other Rising Ground sites (if required)
