Overview

Engineering Specialist - Controls Off Shift at Ford Motor Company. As part of the Manufacturing team, you'll help build world-class, state-of-the-art smart vehicles by developing and maintaining control systems, processes, and automation to improve efficiency and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate resources to identify root causes and fixes, and break down problems into verifiable items.
  • Design, validate, and implement control systems and vision-related solutions; review risk assessments and evaluate equipment safety as part of a team.
  • Read and modify electrical prints and schematics; work with AutoCAD.
  • Program and install automation, machinery, material handling, and robots; reprogram equipment for engineering changes and improvements.
  • Update program backups for machinery and automation; manage installations and maintenance of virus protection software for controls network PCs; perform PC backups and firmware / software updates.
  • Review cycle times using plant monitoring software, follow up on project installations, and ensure quality and delivery improvements.
  • Assist in training manufacturing personnel and plant electricians.
  • Maintain familiarity with OA, CPN / MPN networks and relevant communication protocols; ensure connectivity for wired and wireless networks.
  • Ensure safety and compliance through reviewing risk assessments and maintaining equipment safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Required : High School Diploma or GED; 2 or more years of Controls Engineering experience (internships and co-op experience considered).
  • Preferred : Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Controls or Automation Engineering; electrical background (electrician or technician) preferred.
  • Experience with PLC / CNC (Siemens / Allen-Bradley), VFD, Servo, Profinet, and ABB; solid understanding of laser marking / burning.
  • Ability to read blueprints, modify electrical schematics, and use AutoCAD; troubleshoot equipment and drive continuous process improvement.
  • Experience with conveyor systems, overhead gantry, and networking (DH+, Ethernet, remote IO).
  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience; knowledge of 5S, Kanban, Poka-Yoke, Value Stream Mapping; familiarity with 8D, FMEA, and DMAIC; exposure to TQM and Kaizen.
  • MS Office (Word / Excel / PowerPoint / Outlook) proficiency; knowledge of simulation modeling and visual factory management is a plus.
