The Park School is a Pre-K to Grade 8 independent school in Brookline, MA dedicated to excellence in education. The lower division permanent substitute is a member of the school’s lower division and reports to the Lower Division Head. This full-time, 10-month position comes with the responsibility of working with faculty to cover lower division classes in support of the school’s mission and curricular goals.

Responsibilities

• Available and on campus during school hours (7 : 45 am - 4 : 45 pm) to fulfill any predetermined or as-needed coverage requirements
• Availability to respond to last-minute requests for coverage
• Collaborate with teachers and Divisional Administrative Assistants to fully understand, plan, and implement lesson plans while the teacher is absent, including preparation outside of classroom time
• Effective and respectful class management skills, an understanding of the social / emotional development of children, team-oriented, and possess an exceptional work ethic
• Helping with recess, lunch, and other duties in the Division when available
• Opportunities to participate in other areas, such as athletic coaching or working with our After School Program, are available
• Establish and implement expectations for student safety, conduct, procedures, and routines consistent with Park School policies.
• Participate in the school community, including faculty and committee work, weekly school duties,  and attendance at mandatory meetings is required.
• Update documentation of current curriculum, instruction, and assessment
• Maintain records of individual student progress and achievement
• Assess student performance and engagement, including academics, behavior, and social-emotional needs, while communicating directly with students, colleagues, and families both formally and informally when necessary
• Meaningfully integrate technologies into class lessons for student learning and growth
• Complete administrative tasks and coverage duties as assigned (student supervision, attendance, reporting, documenting curriculum, event / activity coverage, etc.)
• Utilize feedback and reflection to improve practice and performance
• Collaborate with the office of  Diversity, Equity,  Inclusion & Belonging to keep multiculturalism and diversity as a priority of curricular work and curriculum development
• Ensure that respect for diversity, equity, and inclusion, social-emotional learning, and academic excellence are emphasized as core values of The Park School.
