Position Summary
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on advanced CNC equipment, including HAAS EC-1600ZT, VF-5 / 50, UMC 5-axis, Doosan Puma 240 / 2600 series (with live tooling, Y / C-axis, sub-spindles), HAAS ST-10, Longem Manual Lathe, and Okamoto 12x24 surface grinders. This role ensures minimal downtime in a high-mix, low-volume job shop by maintaining machine reliability, calibrating systems, and addressing mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic issues. The Maintenance Technician works under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, collaborating with production teams to support efficient operations and maintain safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Perform scheduled maintenance tasks (e.g., lubrication, calibration, filter replacement) on HAAS (e.g., VF-5 / 50, UMC 5-axis), Doosan (e.g., Puma 2600SYII, Lynx 220), and Okamoto grinders to ensure optimal performance.
Inspect and maintain machine components, including spindles, bar feeders, high-pressure coolant systems, and Renishaw probing systems.Document maintenance activities in ERP / MES systems (e.g., SAP, Epicor) for tracking and compliance.Troubleshooting and Repairs :Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on CNC lathes and mills (e.g., Doosan Puma 240MS, HAAS EC-1600ZT), addressing faults like spindle failures or servo errors.
Use diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes) to troubleshoot HAAS and Doosan control systems (e.g., Fanuc, HAAS controls).Perform emergency repairs to minimize production downtime, coordinating with operators and programmers as needed.Machine Calibration and Setup :Calibrate machine components, such as Renishaw probes, tool setters, and live tooling systems, to ensure precision in high-mix production.
Assist with setup adjustments for complex operations, such as sub-spindle transfers or Y-axis milling on Doosan Puma 2600SYII.Verify machine alignment and tolerances to maintain part quality and meet GD&T standards.Safety and Compliance :Follow OSHA-compliant safety protocols, including lockout / tagout procedures, when performing maintenance or repairs.
Conduct safety inspections on equipment to ensure safe operation in an industrial environment.Maintain a clean and organized maintenance area using 5S principles.Collaboration and Documentation :Work with the Maintenance Supervisor and production teams to prioritize maintenance tasks based on production schedules.
Report maintenance issues, repair outcomes, and parts needs to the Supervisor, updating ERP / MES systems as required.Coordinate with vendors for replacement parts or specialized repairs for HAAS, Doosan, or Okamoto equipment.Continuous Improvement :Identify opportunities to improve machine reliability or reduce maintenance costs, such as optimizing lubrication schedules or upgrading components.
Support Lean initiatives by minimizing downtime and improving equipment availability.Stay updated on HAAS and Doosan maintenance procedures through training or vendor resources.Qualifications
Experience : 3+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, with hands-on work on CNC lathes and mills (e.g., HAAS VF-5 / 50, Doosan Puma 240 / 2600 series). Experience with manual lathes or surface grinders is a plus.Skills :Proficiency in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting for CNC equipment.
Familiarity with HAAS and Doosan control systems, Renishaw probing, and high-pressure coolant systems.Ability to use diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeters, precision measuring instruments) and read technical schematics.Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and lockout / tagout procedures.Basic understanding of ERP / MES systems for maintenance logging.Education : High school diploma or equivalent required; technical diploma or associates degree in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or related field preferred.Certifications : Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician (CMRT), OSHA 10 / 30-Hour, HAAS Maintenance Training, or similar credentials preferred.Physical Requirements : Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, work in confined spaces, and operate in a noisy, industrial environment.Key Competencies
