American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Surgical Acute Med / Surg position working night shifts and requiring an active IL RN license.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Work in the Surgical Acute Med / Surg unit within an acute care hospital settingPatient population includes post-op surgical, trauma, overflow medical cases, and patients requiring wound care, IV therapy, pain management, drains, NGs, central lines, and TPNUnit has 63 beds, including 49 private and 9 observation bedsNurse-to-patient ratios are 4-5 per RN during days and 5-6 per RN at nightUses Epic EMR system; two shifts of orientation with a preceptor plus an additional orientation shift for Epic and professional trainingNight shift schedule : three 12-hour shifts per week (1900-0730) with a requirement to work every other weekend and rotating holidaysTravelers are first to float and will float to units with the same level of experienceSome patients are on telemetry using Phillips monitors, with monitor techs reading strips at a central stationResponsibilities include the care of post-op, trauma, and medical overflow patients, as well as wound care, dressing changes, management of drains and central lines, IV therapy, TPN, and pain managementCharge RNs are pre-assigned and do not take patient assignments; house supervisor is on-site 24 / 7Patient Care Techs assist with vitals, ADLs, and patient mobility; PCT ratios differ between day and night shiftsRNs may place patients on CPAP but do not manage vents; RT manages nebulizersScrub color is flexible; any color is permittedUnit-specific orientation provided, including shifts with a preceptor and EPIC / professional orientation with a unit educatorLocal candidates are accepted, but a different pay rate applies if within 50 milesRNs are not required to titrate drips, except for set-rate heparin\n \n Requirements\n
Active and unencumbered IL RN license required at time of considerationAt least 1 year of Med / Surg nursing experience in an acute care settingCurrent BLS certification from the American Heart AssociationExperience with post-op care, wound care, IV therapy, and critical thinking skillsFamiliarity with Epic EMR preferredCOVID vaccination is not required for this assignment\n Benefits\n
