Senior HVAC Technician - Chiller Specialist - San Antonio, TX

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior HVAC Technician with extensive expertise in commercial and industrial HVAC systems, specializing in chiller systems (air-cooled and water-cooled). The ideal candidate will provide advanced diagnostics, repair, maintenance, and installation services, while also serving as a mentor and technical resource for junior technicians.

Essential Duties

Perform troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance on a wide range of commercial HVAC systems, with a strong focus on chillers (centrifugal, screw, scroll, and reciprocating).

Conduct start-up, commissioning, and performance testing of chiller systems and related equipment (cooling towers, pumps, variable frequency drives).

Diagnose electrical and mechanical issues, interpreting technical schematics and wiring diagrams.

Maintain compliance with EPA regulations and proper handling of refrigerants.

Lead complex service calls and serve as the subject matter expert for chiller-related projects.

Train, mentor, and support junior HVAC technicians in advanced troubleshooting and safety practices.

Provide accurate documentation of work performed, including service reports, time tracking, and parts used.

Interface with customers to explain findings, recommend solutions, and ensure client satisfaction.

Stay current with emerging HVAC technologies, control systems, and energy efficiency practices.

Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to emergency service requests as needed.

Minimum Requirements

• Minimum 7-10 years of progressive HVAC service experience, with at least 3 years of direct chiller system experience.
• EPA Universal Certification required. Manufacturer-specific chiller certifications (Trane, Carrier, York, Daikin, etc.) preferred.

Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, including chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and control systems.

Advanced electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

Strong communication and customer service skills.

Leadership abilities to guide and mentor junior technicians.
