About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic, hands-on safety professional to join our highway grading and paving division as an Assistant Manager, Safety & Health. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about building safe, healthy work environments and who thrives working directly with teams in the field.
The ideal candidate is proactive, solutions-driven, and committed to fostering a strong safety culture across all levels of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Program Development & Implementation – Support the evaluation, planning, and execution of comprehensive safety and health management programs tailored to highway grading and paving.
Training & Development – Assist with creating, scheduling, and delivering engaging training programs that ensure all employees are confident in safety protocols and best practices.
Risk Identification & Hazard Assessment – Conduct regular inspections of job sites and facilities, identifying potential hazards and recommending corrective actions.
Compliance Monitoring – Ensure adherence to OSHA regulations, local / state safety standards, and internal policies while staying current on industry best practices.
Incident Reporting & Investigation – Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determine root causes, and implement corrective measures.
Employee Engagement & Culture – Actively promote a culture of safety by engaging with teams, encouraging hazard reporting, and empowering employees to take ownership of safe work practices.
What We’re Looking For
Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards, particularly in grading and paving environments .
Hands-on leader with the ability to train, coach, and influence teams at all levels.
Skilled in developing safety training programs and presenting material in an engaging way.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment .
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree preferred (B.A. or B.S.).
Minimum of 5 years of industry-related or safety experience required.
Background in construction or outdoor manufacturing environments is a plus.
Other equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Certifications & Licenses
Valid North Carolina Driver’s License (required).
Ability to obtain :
OSHA 30 Construction Certification
First Aid / CPR Certification
