Setting : Acute Care

Contract : 13 Weeks (91 days)

Guaranteed Hours : 48 hours / week

Shift : 1830 – 0700 (Nights)

🔍 Unit Overview

  • Unit : Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Beds : 35
  • Nurse : Patient Ratio : 1 : 4–5
  • Support Staff :

    • CNAs / PCTs : 1 : 10 or 2 : 20

  • Charge Nurse : Present, does not take assignment
  • Float Requirement : May float to :

    • Medical floors

  • ICU
  • Rehab
  • Orientation :

    • Week 1 : Onboarding

  • 1–2 unit-based shifts afterward

    • 👩‍⚕️ Patient Population & Clinical Details

  • Patients : Adults & geriatrics
  • Common Diagnoses :

    • Cardiac (including titratable drips like Cardizem, beta blockers)

  • Stroke (NIHSS required)
  • Diabetic complications
  • Renal (nephrology)
  • Continuous EEG monitoring
  • Drips to Titrate :

    • Cardizem

  • Beta blockers
  • Seizure medications

    • 📝 Requirements & Policies

  • Certifications :

    • BLS (AHA only)

  • ACLS
  • NIHSS
  • EMR : Epic
  • BSN : Not required
  • Experience Level : PCU / Stepdown experience preferred
  • Dress Code : Not specified (typically navy or ceil blue)
  • Call Requirement : None
  • Holiday Requirement : Every 3rd holiday
  • Weekend Requirement : Every other weekend

    • 🚨 Important Policies

  • Radius Rule :

    • Must live 50+ miles away

  • Driver’s license required to confirm distance
  • No locals , and cannot be FT / PT / PRN at any CommonSpirit / CHI / Dignity facility
  • Exam on Day 1 (Friday) :

    • Pass / fail (open book)

  • Must score 90% or higher
  • Failure = termination
  • Artificial Nails : Strictly prohibited

    • Refusal to comply = termination

  • RTO Policy :

    • Max 7 days per 13-week contract

  • All time off must be submitted up front
  • No additional RTO approved after submittal

  • Comfortable with drip titration and complex med / surg neuro / cardiac patients
