Lifeguard Position
Must perform duties with the following characteristics : reliability, emotional stability, tact and judgment, physical fitness, and a positive attitude. Lifeguard will report directly to Head Lifeguard (which reports directly to the Administrative Specialist that reports to the Parks and Recreation Director).
Distinguishing Features of the Class : Must perform lifeguard duties as certified. Must ensure the safety of all individuals during working hours as scheduled.
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties and Tasks :
- Primary : Prevent accidents, respond to all emergency situations, administer emergency first aid as needed by the victim of an accident, and communicate with guards and needed staff.
- Secondary : Observe and enforce all rules and regulations of department, educate the patrons and inform them of the purpose of and need for rules and regulations of safety, assist parents or family members in locating missing children / relative (Staff are NOT to leave the facility until all children are picked up), complete all required records and reports on schedule, report all damaged or defective equipment, carry out all additional duties as assigned by the Head Lifeguard and / or Certified Pool Operator, and conduct oneself as a professional at all times! Be a team player and keep a good working relationship with co-workers.
Dress Code : All female lifeguards must wear one-piece bathing suits ONLY. All male lifeguards must wear shorts with waistband at their waistline. Lifeguards must always present themselves in a professional manner. They are role models for patrons and must act accordingly.
Must assure that the pool is open and ready for programs on time as scheduled. Must make sure that the pool is closed on time as scheduled and all areas are clean before leaving.
Must make sure all required reports and forms are filled out correctly daily (Accident reports, Incident reports, Daily reports, Rescue reports, etc).
Once pool area is opened in the morning before patrons enter :

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Must have skills in swimming, lifesaving, and use of safety equipment, first aid, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.Must be certified in Life guarding for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and CPR / AED.Must have a valid NC Driver's License.
