5 plus years of FTTH or Telecommunications Network Design experience is going to be necessary.

Design Subject Matter Expert FTTH (Fiber to the Home)

We re looking for a Design Subject Matter Expert (SME) specializing in FTTH (Fiber to the Home) network design. This role is ideal for a highly skilled professional who understands every phase of FTTH architecture from interpreting GIS data and field notes to producing optimized, build-ready designs. You ll serve as the go-to expert for design quality, accuracy, and efficiency within our fiber engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead FTTH Design Efforts :

Create detailed and accurate fiber network designs across multiple architectures (e.g., centralized split, distributed split, PON, GPON, XGS-PON).

  • Interpret Field Data :
  • Review and interpret field notes, GIS data, and existing as-built information to produce precise network layouts.

  • Route Optimization :
  • Develop efficient and cost-effective route plans to serve all premises within a designated boundary area.

  • Workprint Quality Control :
  • Conduct thorough QC of workprints, ensuring all design standards, construction requirements, and safety guidelines are met.

    Make revisions or corrections as needed to maintain design integrity.

  • Tool & Software Use :
  • Utilize AutoCAD to produce, modify, and finalize design drawings.

  • Integrate data from GIS and other mapping tools to ensure design accuracy.
  • (Bonus) Familiarity with Corning Configurator and / or Hexatronic Design Tools to streamline material and product selections.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration :
  • Work closely with field engineers, project managers, and permitting teams to ensure alignment between design and field realities.

  • Documentation & Standards :
  • Maintain and enforce design standards, documentation, and version control throughout the project lifecycle.

    Qualifications

  • Experience : 5+ years in FTTH or telecommunications network design.
  • Technical Skills :
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and GIS-based systems.

  • Strong understanding of fiber network architecture , including PON / GPON principles.
  • Ability to interpret field notes , as-builts , and network drawings accurately.
  • Soft Skills :
  • Strong attention to detail with a methodical, analytical mindset.

  • Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and proactive in problem-solving.
  • Preferred (Not Required)

  • Experience using Corning Configurator or Hexatronic Design Tools .
  • Prior experience in fiber construction coordination or permit design review .
  • Work Environment

  • Location : Must be able to report daily to the Plano, TX office .
  • Type : Full-time, on-site position.
  • Schedule : Monday Friday, standard business hours (some flexibility as needed).
