Job Description

Avery Dennison is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to join our team at our site in Painesville, Ohio. In this position, you will collaborate with the Engineering and Maintenance Teams to provide improvement and troubleshooting of all electrical / electronic systems, such as programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and other drives / controls fixing to support the manufacturing site. You will be responsible for providing manufacturing support to resolve production and quality issues that arise on a day-to-day basis by performing effective root cause problem solving to solve process issues associated with equipment and / or machine performance. The role will report directly to the Maintenance Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Control system design, programming, testing and commissioning
  • PLC (programmable logic control) programming and troubleshooting
  • Perform effective root-cause problem solving to solve process issues associated with equipment and / or machine performance
  • Drive and support productivity and operator experience improvement with changes to programming, equipment, and or HMI screens
  • Assist in development of capital plans to support the divisional drives and controls strategy
  • Develop and maintain drive, controls and SCADA system best practices through collaboration with other process technology teams
  • Perform a wide variety of functions such as installation, maintenance, and repair of equipment for generating, distributing, and utilizing electrical energy
  • Troubleshoot electrical malfunctions, inspect circuits and wiring for shielding and grounding, and test electrical equipment for safety and efficiency
  • Work from schematics, drawings, layouts, or other specifications to locate and diagnose trouble in the electrical system or equipment
  • Create and update electrical schematics and drawings
  • Drive standardization of drive and controls systems and SCADA systems throughout the division; assess gaps against best practices and develop plans to close gaps
  • Interact with Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering teams to ensure equipment reliability
  • Identify safety issues, support safety initiatives, and recommend and implement effective solutions
  • Recommend and provide support for technology upgrade projects to improve product quality and manufacturing effectiveness
  • Conduct training of employees for proper machine adjustments and operations
  • Be willing to have a flexible schedule to support a 24 / 7 operation as required

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related
  • 8+ years of experience in controls or electrical engineering function in a manufacturing environment
  • Expertise in automation, drive and PLC control systems
  • Knowledgeable with National Electric Code
  • Experience in troubleshooting equipment and process issues
  • Ability to understand and troubleshoot PLC ladder logic and make system edits as needed
  • Hands-on ability to work through symptoms and get to root cause
  • Ability to execute multiple projects with minimal supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills among all levels of the organization
  • Preferred

  • Drives : Parker SSD, AB Powerflex, Siemens S120
  • PLC : Siemens TIA Portal, RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000 Logix Designer and HMI software : FactoryTalk View Studio ME, FactoryTalk View Studio SE, Thin client / Thin client manager
  • HMI software : Wonderware Intouch
  • Data collection systems including Wonderware Historian
  • Knowledge of Safety PLC and associated hardware
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Additional Information

    The salary range for this position will be $115k-150k / year.

    The hiring base salary range above represents what Avery Dennison reasonably expects to pay for this position as of the date of this posting. Actual salaries will vary within the range, and in some circumstances may be above or below the range, based on various factors including but not limited to a candidate's relevant skills, experience, education and training, and location, as well as the job scope and complexity, responsibilities, and regular and / or necessary travel required for the position, which may change depending on the candidate pool.
