Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Emergency Department position requiring a current CA RN license and strong dysrhythmia, stroke, and pediatric advanced life support skills.
Responsibilities
Work in the Emergency Department (ED) of an acute care hospital19 ED beds, 3 fast track beds, and 2 triage rooms with a separate entranceProvides care for standard emergency and acute patients; STEMI and stroke receiving centerNurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1 : 4Tele monitoring required, must be able to read and interpret EKG stripsUses Cerner for electronic medical records charting12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required and first to float statusRotation for holidays with core staffFloating may be required to other Sacramento area facilitiesFloor-specific orientation provided with 1-2 days on the unitResponsible for providing emergency nursing care including management of STEMI and stroke patientsScrub color is navy; under shirts must be navy, white, or black, and scrub jackets are optional but must be navyNo trauma, vents, or teaching responsibilities in this EDCharge nurse generally does not take an assignment but may provide break reliefSupport staff includes two techs / EMTs per shift and 24 / 7 social services, pharmacy, RT, and hospitalist or intensivist coveragePatient sitters are assigned based on individual risk levelPsychiatric holds occur in designated front area with security presenceBedside shift report is standard practiceNo block scheduling available, but schedules are accessible online for shift swaps and picking up extra shiftsFirst time travelers are eligible to applyRequirements
Active, unencumbered CA RN license required at time of considerationMinimum of 2 years of recent Emergency Department RN experienceCurrent certifications in BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and PALS requiredMust provide two professional references : one supervisor reference from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 yearsSuccessful completion of the Relias Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam before acceptance; pass / fail with two attempts allowedAbility to read and interpret EKG strips requiredAbility to work night shifts and every other weekend as scheduledCopy of driver's license required for considerationCandidates cannot have been employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facilities within the past year unless employed PRN through an outside agencyBenefits
