SSHO Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO)
Position Overview
The Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) is responsible for implementing and ensuring compliance with safety and health regulations on construction sites or projects. This role aims to promote a proactive safety culture, mitigate risks, and ensure the well-being of all personnel involved in operations, particularly in federal projects associated with entities such as USACE, NAVFAC, and NASA.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement site-specific safety and health plans in accordance with EM-385 and other relevant regulations.
- Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Provide safety training and orientation for all employees, subcontractors, and visitors on site.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, inspections, and training sessions, and report them to management and regulatory bodies as required.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for safety-related matters and liaise with federal agencies such as the Air Force and NASA regarding compliance and safety protocols.
- Collaborate with project managers and team members to promote a culture of safety and health awareness throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety and health management, preferably in federal construction projects.Certification as a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) or similar credential is required.Thorough knowledge of EM-385, OSHA regulations, and safety protocols relevant to federal contracting.Experience working with USACE, NAVFAC, Air Force, or NASA is highly desirable.Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills to effectively promote safety culture on site.Proficiency in conducting safety training and developing safety documentation.For this position, you must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship for a non-immigrant visa.
