Police Cadet
The City of Port Huron, MI, is seeking candidates for the position of Police Cadet. The role involves accepting and preparing preliminary reports of criminal complaints and accidents of a minor nature. Employees will also perform specific patrol duties within assigned areas as a visible deterrent and enforce City ordinances authorized by the Department.
The job is part-time and is located in Port Huron, MI, with a salary of $15.00 per hour. The department is the Port Huron Police Department, and the closing date for applications is continuous.
The supervision for the role is received under the direct supervision of a Lieutenant, Sergeant, or other superior officer. There is no supervision exercised over others.
Typical examples of work include accepting and preparing preliminary reports of criminal complaints and accidents of a minor nature, performing specific, limited patrol duties, riding a bicycle for extended periods of time, walking and standing for long periods of time, working in both cold and warm weather conditions, climbing over obstacles, lifting, carrying, or dragging objects, effectively communicating with people, obtaining statements from victims, witnesses, and suspects, serving subpoenas, maintaining logs, monitoring security cameras, keeping work areas stocked with necessary supplies, verifying bond money, logging in and out arrested and bond-out persons, preparing supplemental reports, assisting command officers, confiscating and logging evidence and found property, performing parking enforcement and patrols, taking court documents, fingerprinting citizens, assisting in crossing guard assignments, assisting with traffic control, answering calls / emails for anonymous tip lines, participating in drug enforcement events, and encouraging participation in community policing events.
Desirable qualifications include attending college, enrolled in law enforcement or related fields, maintaining a 2.5 or better GPA, good moral character, ability to communicate and interact effectively, ability to prepare written reports, legible handwriting, and maintaining a satisfactory work record.
