Job Responsibilities
- Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations, and industrial processes
- Recommend processes and safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to chemical, physical and biological work hazards.
- Inspect facilities, machinery and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
- Install safety devices on machinery, or direct installation
- Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational disease to determine causes and preventive measures.
- Review plans and specifications for construction or purchase of new machinery or equipment to determine whether all safety requirements have been met.
- Report or review findings from accident investigations, facilities inspections, or environmental testing.
- Review safety programs and policies to determine adequacy and compliance to OSHA / TOSHA regulations.
- Conduct safety audits, record and rate severity level, assign responsibility for corrective actions and track for timely completion.
- Conduct required OSHA / TOSHA safety training, annual retraining, post accident, processes change.
- Manage the ISO 14001 Environmental Program and ensure compliance to regulations.
- Lead Executive and Plant Safety Committee Meetings, plan, direct, and follow up on safety activities.
- Must actively support our Health, Safety and Environmental Policies, immediately report all dangerous situations and correct them when able to do so safely, participate in all required Safety Training, meetings, inspections and use all required PPE.
Requirements
An ideal candidate for a safety engineer position has a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, a strong understanding of safety regulations and standards (like OSHA), and proven experience in risk assessment, hazard identification, and accident investigation. Key skills include excellent communication for training and reporting, analytical problem-solving for mitigation, a proactive and detail-oriented approach, and the ability to lead and collaborate effectively within a team.
Desired Skills and Experience
Regulatory experience - understanding of safety regulations and standards such as OSHA.Risk Management experience - ability to conduct risk assessments, identify hazards and implement mitigation strategies.Accident Investigation - experience in accident investigation to identify root cause and prevent future incidents.Emergency Planning - skills in developing and maintaining emergency response plans and managing safety equipment.Technical Tools - familiarity with industrial safety systems, fire protection systems, and safety management systems.Excellent communication skills, able to problem-solve, collaborate and lead safety initiatives, and a meticulous and proactive approach to identifying hazards and ensuring compliance.J-18808-Ljbffr
