Mass Properties Engineer

Overview

The Weight Control Engineer is responsible for supporting the development, monitoring, and maintenance of vessel weight and stability data throughout the design, construction, and delivery phases. This role ensures accuracy in weight estimates and reporting, assists in managing weight margins, and contributes to stability assessments in compliance with regulatory requirements and customer specifications. The position requires close coordination with design disciplines, shipyard teams, and vendors to collect, verify, and integrate weight data into ship design documentation.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• This position may serve as a project-level lead, coordinating with engineering teams, shipyard personnel, and subcontractors to gather and verify weight data.
• Provides technical guidance to junior engineers, designers, and drafters in weight reporting, estimating techniques, and software tools.
• May function as a team leader over designers and less experienced engineers and specialists. Is responsible for mentoring, coordinating and reviewing progress of group activities.

Education

Normally requires at least 4-year degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline is required.

Advanced coursework in ship stability, hydrostatics, or weight engineering is a plus.
