Job Profile Title : Sr. Principal Mechanical Design Engineer
Location / Division Specific Information : USA – Austin / USA – Remote / P06
Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical systems for Data Center Infrastructure functionality, including developing specifications, selecting key components, determining component placement and fastening methods, and transitioning design to manufacturing.
- Develop test processes and select equipment to maintain high standards of operational excellence and reliability.
- Apply expertise in liquid cooling technology used in data center design and buildout, including single phase and two-phase cooling applications for hyperscale data centers (primary and in-rack cooling).
- Work with enclosed and facility-based cooling systems and current Cooling Distribution Unit (CDU) technologies.
- Define operational expectations for LC Racks, manifolds, and LC infrastructure (pressure ratings, temperature ranges, flow uniformity, durability).
- Conduct testing concepts for leaks, hydrostatic pressure validation, flow resistance analysis, and corrosion assessments to meet international standards (ASME, ISO).
- Knowledgeably support High-Density Liquid Cooling products used in global data center applications.
- Review rack manifold manufacturing, design, and function (machining, welding, surface finishing, materials, post-production cleaning, flow optimization, thermal expansion, connection interfaces, high-point vents, low-point drains).
- Review CAD / Technical Data Packages to validate mechanical design requirements within a system environment.
- Lead reviews of product specifications, plumbing, and hydronic systems with all disciplines to ensure performance and code compliance.
- Evaluate thermal data from engineering or manufacturing tests to confirm thermo-mechanical conformance, testing, and modeling.
- Understand fabrication practices and installation of copper, stainless steel, and aluminum piping for large-scale cooling systems.
- Conduct stress and flow analyses to ensure piping systems withstand operational conditions without failure.
- Collaborate with project managers on design quotations and fellow cross-functional teams to ensure system compatibility and integration for rack, site, equipment, and system levels (including water chillers, heat exchangers, Air Handler Units, and more).
- Prepare technical specifications for piping components and systems, including testing procedures, installation procedures, and maintenance guidelines.
- Utilize CAD / CAE tools and equipment for engineering tasks; evaluate and optimize manufacturing assembly processes, engaging with vendors and production teams.
- Create detailed mechanical designs for components, sub-assemblies, and system integration; develop BOMs for release to manufacturing.
- Perform tests, debugging, and validation of mechanical systems and support manufacturing processes.
- Manage relationships with mechanical component vendors and contract manufacturers.
- Stay updated with the latest technologies and methods to ensure competitive and cost-effective designs.
- Support management in proposing potential R&D project ideas to enhance competency areas and assess engineering feasibility and cost-effectiveness with production staff.
Qualifications
Education :
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field is required.Experience :
Minimum of 8+ years of experience in mechanical system integration.Proven track record of successful system designs and implementations in a relevant industry.Strong understanding of mechanical systems, integration strategy, and system coordination.Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Strong communication and teamwork abilities.Alternatively, a suitable combination of education, experience, and / or training may be considered.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities :
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Creative, self-motivated, accountable, and team-oriented; able to work independently with minimal oversight.Proficient in reading, analyzing, and interpreting general business publications, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.Skilled in writing reports, business correspondence, and procedural guides; effective at presenting information and responding to management, clients, and public queries.Capable of influencing others and sharing best practices; comfortable working as part of a global team.Capable of assessing projects, articulating risks, and developing project milestones; familiar with stage-gate processes in PLCM.Able to mentor less experienced engineers; able to travel 20% to 30% as required.Preferred Qualifications :
Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering or related field is preferred.Active Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to Data Center Infrastructure is preferred.Compensation and Benefits
The pay range for this role is $157,200 - $282,900. Job-related, non-discriminatory factors used to determine the actual offered rate include qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data, and consideration of internal equity.
The anticipated close date of this job requisition is : October 31, 2025. This position is eligible for a short-term incentive based on performance.
