Description :
Unit has 28 private beds.
BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications are required.
Patient ratios are typically 1 : 4-5; may go to 1 : 6 depending on acuity.
The electronic medical record system is currently Cerner and EPIC.
Day charge nurses have no assignments, while night charge nurses might have an assignment.
There are 2 nurse aides per shift during the day and mid-shift; no CNA coverage at night after 11 PM.
Weekend requirement is every other weekend for days and nights, including holidays.
Scrub color is navy blue; jackets, if worn, must also be navy blue.
Nurses will have access to tele monitors.
There is a monitor tech available, but nurses must be able to read and interpret strips.
Nurses are expected to titrate drips for Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Heparin; Insulin is a set-rate only.
Bipap, Cpap, and High Flow are utilized in patient care.
There is a hospitalist on-site 24 / 7, and intensivists are available in the ICU seven days a week from 7 AM to 7 PM, with on-call coverage after hours.
There is no dedicated IV team; however, charge nurses or directors can assist with difficult IV sticks.
Respiratory therapy is available 24 / 7.
Pharmacy services are also in-house 24 / 7.
Registered nurses work 12-hour shifts from 7 AM to 7 : 30 PM and 7 PM to 7 : 30 AM.
Certified nursing assistants work 8-hour shifts from 6 : 30 AM to 3 PM and 2 : 30 PM to 11 PM.
The leadership is communicative and supportive, allowing block scheduling.
Floating to intensive care may be required as helping hands.
Orientation consists of two shifts with a preceptor.
Common diagnoses include severe cardiac issues, dysrhythmias, and cerebrovascular accidents, as well as a mix of patients downgraded from the ICU.
Nurses will need to work one winter holiday such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's.
