PICU Nurse Job Details

Location : Harlingen, TX 78550 (South Texas healthcare jobs)

Facility : Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Level III Trauma Center, teaching hospital

Assignment Length : 13-week travel nursing contract

Start Date : Weekly Wednesday starts beginning October 1, 2025

Shift : 12-hour night shifts (18 : 45 – 07 : 15)

Hours per Week : 36

Nurse-to-Patient Ratio : 1 : 2

Charting System : Cerner

Scrub Color : Navy blue

Float Support Areas : Pediatrics and NBICU

Estimated Weekly Salary

Estimated Weekly Salary Range : $1800-$1930

PICU Registered Nurse Qualifications

Active Texas RN license (Texas nursing jobs)

Minimum 1 year of recent PICU nurse experience

BLS and ACLS certifications required

NIHSS certification preferred

Proficiency in CVL care, trach care, GT care, ventilator care, intubated patients, and IV medication drips / titrations

Ability to work night shifts and float to Pediatrics and NBICU units

PICU Nurse Responsibilities

Provide high-quality pediatric nursing care in the ICU

Monitor and manage critically ill children with conditions including DKA, trauma, bronchitis, appendicitis, cellulitis, pancreatitis, osteomyelitis, diabetes, RSV, COVID-19, dehydration, fever, Kawasaki disease, Crohn's, BRUE, flu, and post-tonsillectomy

Perform specialized procedures : CVL, trach, GT, ventilator care, intubation

Administer and titrate IV medication drips

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in a teaching hospital setting

Float to Pediatrics and NBICU as needed to support patient care
