Med / Surg RN - Full Time Opportunity\n\nPosition Overview\n \n
Med / Surg RN Full Time (36 hours) + 2 on call shifts in 4 weeks\nRotational D / N / W / Holidays\nFT Day / Night Rotation (36hrs), EOW, Holidays + 2 OC shifts per 4wks\nIf taking 48-hour contract, no On Call required. 3x12\nCandidates must work through January, no guaranteed RTO on the three major holidays\n\n\nRequired Licensure and Certifications\n \n
NYS RN Licensure Required\nBLS certification\nACLS (AHA or RQI only)\nNIHSS certification\n\n\nExperience Requirements\n \n
One (1) Year Experience serving in Med / Surg Environment as a Registered Nurse\n\n\nPosition Summary\n \n
The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high quality compassionate care to patients and families\nThe Registered Professional Nurse assesses patient need, develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates the care delivery throughout the patient's episode\nThe RN on 3 North develops specialized skill in the area of patient admitted for medical conditions\nProvides care to adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations with medical conditions\nThe 3 North RN is accountable for patient family education to assist in understanding self care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing\nThe 3 North Registered Nurse is expected to promote comfort and provide emotional support in a Healing Environment\n\n\nJob Functions\n\nClinical Care Delivery\n \n
Applies nursing knowledge and skill in the delivery of care\nAssesses patient / family needs through active listening, social perceptiveness (being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do), and analyzing data or information obtained through direct observation / assessment, technology, or health team communication\nCreates a developmentally and age appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized plan of care to address the nature and scope of the health problems identified\nIn collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and healthcare team members, sets goals and monitors the patient's progress\nThe RN adjusts the plan based on patient response or change in condition / reprioritization of needs\nDemonstrates skill in application of interventions including medication administration\n\n\nPatient Advocacy and Safety\n \n
Promotes, advocates for and protects the health, safety and rights of the patient\nEncourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to accomplish the best possible patient outcome\nTeaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks and interventions consistent with the individual's education, training, and scope of practice\nUnderstands the personal responsibility to safeguard public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies\n\n\nPatient and Family Education\n \n
Motivates the patient / family by teaching them what is needed to continue care / healing at home\nAssesses the patient / family learning styles and structures the sessions to maximize understanding\nSeeks "teachable" moments during the care delivery process to emphasize pertinent information\nAsks questions to evaluate retention of key points in the self care process\nProvides tools and information to assist the patient's family after discharge\nDocuments the education provided and the patient / family response to the education\n\n\nQuality Improvement and Professional Development\n \n
Systematically evaluates quality and effectiveness of Nursing Practice and uses the results of quality improvement activities to initiate changes in individual nursing practice and care delivery\nEngages in self-evaluation of practice, identifying strengths and areas in which professional development would be beneficial\nTakes accountability to increase knowledge and enhance skill\nUses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems\n\n\nPatient-Centered Care\n \n
