Senior Network Engineer

Remote but high preference for sitting new core location in thought that this in the future could go FTE (if so would be 3 days onsite)- Would need to sit in Salisbury, NC Greenville, SC Quincy, MA Chicago, IL

Position Overview :

TEKsystems client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Network Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and optimization of Cisco-based core network infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be an expert in BGP routing protocols, with deep knowledge of enterprise-grade routing and switching, network performance tuning, and high availability architectures.

This role is critical to ensuring the stability, scalability, and security of our global network footprint. The core network is managed and maintained by a 3rd party service provider.. This resource will not do a ton of hands on actual engineering as the provider is responsible for day to day but they will be auditing the provider, ensuring work done previously and net new work is correct, documenting effectively and being overall SME type resource for Core Networking for customer.

Key Responsibilities :

Architect, deploy, and maintain Cisco core routing and switching platforms across data centers and branch locations.

Design and optimize BGP routing policies, including route reflectors, peering strategies, and traffic engineering.

Troubleshoot complex Layer 3 routing issues and Layer 2 switching problems in high-availability environments.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support cloud connectivity, SD-WAN, and hybrid network models.

Implement and maintain network monitoring, alerting, and performance tools.

Lead network upgrades, migrations, and capacity planning initiatives.

Ensure compliance with security standards and assist in network segmentation and firewall rule design.

Document network topologies, configurations, and operational procedures.

Mentor junior engineers and provide escalation support for critical incidents.

Required Qualifications :

7+ years of experience in enterprise network engineering.

Expert-level knowledge of BGP, including route filtering, redistribution, and convergence optimization.

Strong hands-on experience with Cisco, Catalyst / ASR / Nexus platforms.

Proficiency in OSPF, EIGRP, and MPLS technologies.

Experience with network automation (e.g., Python, Ansible) is a plus.

Familiarity with network security principles, including ACLs, VPNs, and firewalls.

Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Strong documentation and communication abilities.

• Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $70.00 / hr.
