What you'll be doing
- Actively reaching out to and interacting with the general public, specifically greeting visitors and talking with prospective adopters to understand what they are looking for in a pet.
- Interacting with the animals to discuss them with prospective adopters to find a good match.
- Guiding people through the adoption process, sharing information about animal care and behavior, reviewing adoption applications, interviewing applicants, and communicating in a courteous and friendly manner.
- Learning and using the ShelterLuv computer program to track animals and enter complete and accurate data.
- Cleaning cages and maintaining sanitation standards.
- Providing quality in-person and telephone client service; assisting visitors interested in adopting and informing them about available pets and procedures.
- Educating adopters on animal care, training, enrichment, and long-term responsibilities.
- Understanding medical history and related paperwork to explain to clients.
- Facilitating visits and interactions with potential adopters; housekeeping duties (laundry, dishes); assisting with disease control and cleaning of public areas as needed.
- Reporting signs of illness, disease, injury, or unusual activity to the Adoption Center Medical Team.
- Learning about animals in various areas to best place them for success; encouraging sales from the retail store to help meet budgetary goals.
- Collecting payments for store sales and adoptions; balancing adoption financials daily; responding to emails and phone calls from adopters promptly.
- Participating in team meetings and continuing education to improve shelter operations.
- Approaching work with an open, nonjudgmental attitude.
