We are looking for a Staff Search Engineer to lead the development of advanced search technology at the heart of our knowledge platform. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys tackling complex, unsolved problems in search and retrieval, particularly in environments where algorithms are designed to serve intelligent agents rather than human users. You will be responsible for shaping new approaches, driving implementation, and ensuring measurable results.

What You’ll Do

Architect and refine search algorithms that can operate across unstructured and complex knowledge sources.

Build evaluation systems that set ambitious targets and track progress against them.

Develop methods to seamlessly integrate new streams of information into the broader knowledge base.

Design systems that can distill raw, unstructured data into meaningful insights.

Provide technical leadership and mentorship to fellow engineers, encouraging creative applications of AI.

What We’re Looking For

Strong background in search and retrieval, with hands-on experience using tools such as Opensearch, vector databases, and PostgreSQL.

A history of working on algorithm-heavy engineering challenges.

Experience creating production-ready retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems or similar architectures.

Ability to thrive in experimental, research-oriented environments.

Genuine curiosity for emerging technologies and willingness to test new approaches.

Experience building internal systems that support multiple stakeholders across an organization.

Proven ability to succeed in lean, fast-moving teams where every contribution matters.

Strong problem-solving skills and comfort operating in ambiguity.

High standards for software design and code quality.

Self-directed, motivated, and capable of owning complex projects end-to-end.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead technically.
