Job Summary
The Manager of Vessel Maintenance and Repair is responsible for directing day-to-day engineering operations across G&H Towing's tugboat fleet. This role leads the Senior Port Engineers, Port Engineers, and shoreside mechanics to ensure vessels remain safe, compliant, and operational. The Manager oversees all maintenance, repair, and drydock activities, aligning execution with the Engineering Department's strategy, budgets, and regulatory standards. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, this position serves as the operational leader within the department, ensuring that maintenance and repair efforts are executed efficiently and consistently across the fleet.

Responsibilities, Required Knowledge, Skills

- Conduct inspections to verify compliance with company standards and regulatory agencies, including AWO RCP
- Coordinate closely with Operations and Safety Departments to align maintenance with operational needs
- Coordinate procurement of parts, materials, and services; ensure cost-effective vendor management and supply chain reliability
- Coordinate the purchasing of parts, supplies, and repair services; manage inventory control
- Develop and monitor operating budgets for vessel maintenance, repairs, and drydock activities in partnership with the Director of Engineering
- Develop, execute, and track annual and long-term vessel maintenance budgets
- Direct the scheduling, planning, and execution of all preventatives, corrective, and emergency maintenance
- Ensure regulatory compliance (USCG, ABS, AWO RCP, and SMS) through inspections, documentation, and adherence to company maintenance standards

- Proven ability to troubleshoot, test resolutions, and escalate common issues

- Provide input for vessel design, construction, and modifications
- Review and approve maintenance work orders and supply requisitions
- Review and approve work orders, requisitions, and invoices related to vessel maintenance and repair
- Serve as a key point of contact for Operations and Safety teams to align maintenance with vessel deployment and crew needs
- Serve as department head, enforcing uniform vessel maintenance standards and procedures
- Serve as primary point of contact for emergency maintenance issues; participate in 24 / 7 on-call rotation
- Strong communication, organizational, analytical, time management, problem-solving, and planning skills
- Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex mechanical or electrical issues
Education & Experience
A Bachelor of Science in marine engineering or a maritime academy graduate; extensive experience may be considered in lieu of educationA minimum of 8–10 years of progressively responsible experience in marine engineering, vessel maintenance, or a related heavy industrial sectorAttention to detail and problem-solving skillsExcellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and negotiation skillsProven leadership experience managing multi-level technical teamsSignificant experience in both shore-side engineering and vessel-based engineering rolesStrong knowledge of marine diesel engines, propulsion systems (including z-drives), electrical systems, and regulatory requirementsStrong leadership, organizational, and project management skillsTechnical writing ability for documentation and reportingRequires proficiency with computer hardware and software to include Microsoft Office applications, AutoCAD, using a computer with a keyboard and mouse, navigation with a web browser, checking and sending email, and use of internet search engines. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and maintenance management software; ability to prepare technical documentation and reportsRequired Licensure & Certifications

Work hours will be assigned based on business needs. By request from the department director. Work hours may include irregular hours including weekends, holidays, and after-hours to assist in completing special tasks or assignments; must be accessible 24 / 7 for vessel maintenance emergencies, including weekends, on a rotating basis.Frequent out-of-region travel will be required within the Gulf Coast region.
