Job Description

This is a remote position.

As a Remote Data Entry Keyer, you’ll play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing the accuracy of Sunrift’s back-office data — including inventory records, customer and rental transactions, vendor information, and sales archives. Given Sunrift’s long-standing heritage (since 1980) as a locally-owned outdoor outfitter in the heart of Travelers Rest with expert staff helping customers gear up for hiking, paddling, cycling and more, your contribution ensures that the operational side of the business is reliable, up-to-date, and supports the store’s mission of outfitting adventures.

Key Responsibilities

Accurately enter, update, and maintain data in company systems — including inventory databases, e-commerce and POS records, rentals (kayaks, bikes, SUPs), customer profiles, vendor invoices and purchase orders.

Review source documentation (e.g., receipts, rental logs, shipments, returns) for completeness and accuracy before keying in; flag discrepancies and liaise with relevant store / rental teams for resolution.

Reconcile data between systems (e.g., rental returns vs. inventory status; sales vs. POS logs) and produce summary reports on mismatches or missing entries.

Maintain clear and organized digital files / spreadsheets for easy reference; help clean up legacy data, remove duplicates, standardize data formats, and archive obsolete records.

Generate periodic reports (daily / weekly / monthly) such as inventory turnover, rental usage, sales trends, open invoice list, data backlog stats, and present these to management or operations leads.

Collaborate remotely with on-site staff (store floor, rental desk, inventory / warehouse) to collect needed data, verify inputs, follow-up on missing information, and help ensure that field activity is reflected accurately in the systems.

Uphold data confidentiality and integrity — ensure customer information, vendor pricing, and internal operational data are handled according to company policies and best practices for security.

Assist in improving data-entry workflows, propose enhancements to tools or processes (e.g., automation, macros in spreadsheets) to increase efficiency and reduce error rates.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent required; additional certificate / training in administrative support, data management or office technology is preferred.

Proven experience in data entry, clerical support, or remote administrative work; retail, rental-driven, or outdoor gear environment experience is a plus.

Typing speed of 50+ words per minute with high accuracy; strong attention to detail.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (or Google Sheets) and able to navigate or learn database systems and workflow tools.

Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and work independently in a remote setting.

Reliable computer setup (stable internet connection, comfortable home workspace), and ability to collaborate via email, chat or video with on-site teams.

Strong communication skills — able to ask for clarification, follow up on missing data, and work across departments.

A passion for the outdoors and familiarity with outdoor gear / rental operations is a plus (aligns with Sunrift’s culture of helping outdoor enthusiasts).

Benefits

Competitive hourly rate or salary (depending on experience and hours worked).

Flexible remote schedule offering good work-life balance.

Employee discount on outdoor gear, apparel and rentals at Sunrift Adventures — enhancing your access to gear if you’re an outdoor enthusiast.

Opportunities for growth into administrative, operations, inventory or systems roles within the company.

Training and development in data-entry best practices, remote workflow management, and retail- / rental-operation systems.

The chance to work with a locally-owned, community-oriented outdoor outfitter with deep roots (established 1980) and a strong reputation for excellent service

Requirements

Friendly, energetic, with strong communication and listening skills. Passionate about the outdoors; experience or comfort with outdoor gear is a plus. Detail-oriented; able to multitask and work efficiently even during busy times. Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays. Able to lift equipment (e.g. boxes or gear) up to moderate weight (e.g. 40-50 lbs) safely. Comfortable standing for long periods and moving around the store.
