Must-Have :

Experience with peritoneal dialysis is highly preferred.

Description :

The unit consists of 52 beds, all private rooms.

A charge nurse takes a full patient assignment and has a clinical assistant available.

There are typically 4-6 certified nursing assistants per shift.

Ratios for patients are generally 1 : 6-7, mostly 1 : 7 for both day and night shifts.

Weekend requirements include working every other weekend.

Nurse's scrub color is navy blue for tops and bottoms, including scrub jackets.

Remote telemetry is monitored as needed.

Registered nurses are not required to read cardiac strips.

Common drips include heparin, and there are occasional PCAs with morphine sulfate.

We have a hospitalist in-house 24 / 7, as well as an intensivist in the ICU around the clock.

IV team assistance is available 24 / 7, with specific protocols for starting IVs.

Respiratory therapy and pharmacy services are also in-house 24 / 7.

Shifts are scheduled for 6 weeks at a time, with requests for time off allowed.

Floating may occur to other medical-surgical or medical-surgical / oncology units.

Common diagnoses include orthopedic post-ops, neuro post-ops, and general post-ops.

Patients with infections, COPD, and other medical diagnoses are also treated.

If a patient is being tested for COVID, they will remain on this unit until results are available.

Charting is done using Allscripts - Sunrise.
