A CNC programmer develops and writes code for computer numerical control (CNC) machines to manufacture parts based on techinical drawings. Key duties include analyzing blueprints, creating programs using CAD / CAM software, selecting appropriate tools and speeds, and troubleshooting issues during production. The role also involves adapting existing programs, optimizing them for efficiency, documenting procedures, and ensuring safety standards are met.
Core responsibilities
Write CNC code using CAD / CAM software to control machines like mills, lathes, and routers.
Interpret blueprints and engineering drawings to determine machining parameters, tool paths, speeds, and feed rates.
Adjust existing programs for new parts or materials and fine-tune programs to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
Diagnose and resolve problems that arise during the manufacturing process.
Ensure programs and the resulting parts meet strict quality and tolerance requirements.
Work with machinists, operators, and other team members to ensure smooth production.
Create and maintain documentation for programs, including operational steps and tool lists.
