As a key member of the management team, the Process Control Engineer is responsible for supporting the mill's production operations in a safe, economical, and efficient manner. This role provides technical leadership in process improvements, automation, controls, and engineering projects, while fostering a positive job culture rooted in honesty, integrity, teamwork, and personal accountability.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Engineering Support
Provide technical leadership for maintenance, automation, and engineering initiatives.
Design and update control schematics and diagrams using AutoCAD.
Evaluate and tune control loop performance; audit system effectiveness.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to automation systems, instrumentation, and process equipment.
Program, modify, and maintain PLC systems (Rockwell / Allen-Bradley preferred), Ladder Logic, HMIs, and data historians.
Analyze process and equipment data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.
Apply engineering principles to resolve complex process control and automation challenges.
Project Management
Lead and manage capital improvement projects from conception through completion.
Assess project feasibility, including cost, timeline, technical scope, and operational impact.
Ensure projects meet regulatory and safety standards while aligning with company goals.
Collaborate with Mill Management and vendors to coordinate schedules and execution.
Cross-functional Collaboration
Act as a liaison between engineering, maintenance, and operations teams.
Train maintenance staff on automation controls and best practices.
Provide backup support to Mill Operations Manager, Maintenance Foreperson, and Mill Superintendent.
Safety, Compliance & Reporting
Participate in daily operations and safety meetings, providing technical insights and updates.
Support and lead safety programs and continuous improvement initiatives.
Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 : 2015 and ISO 14001 : 2015 standards.
Uphold and support SFI and FSC Chain-of-Custody Certifications.
Provide regular reports and updates to the Mill Operations Manager.
Execute other duties or special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Automation, or related Engineering field (preferred).
Experience
Minimum 4 years of experience in an industrial or process manufacturing environment.
Strong PLC programming experience (Rockwell / Allen-Bradley preferred).
Proficient in Ladder Logic, HMI development, and control system troubleshooting.
Familiarity with AC & DC drives, instrumentation, and control valves.
Experience with Metso and / or Foxboro systems is a plus.
Skilled in AutoCAD for power plans, single lines, and control panel layouts.
Competency in control systems, data analysis tools, and communication protocols (ControlLogix / CompactLogix).
