Must-Have :

Must be able to read strips.

Comfortable with cardiac patients.

Description :

Unit has 43 beds, with a mix of semi-private and private rooms.

Average nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 5, can flex up to 1 : 6.

RN's are required to titrate Heparin drips.

Common diagnoses include post heart catheterizations, congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and various arrhythmias.

Monitor techs are available, but RN's must be able to read strips.

Charge nurse role is present 24 / 7; night charge nurse takes patient assignments.

Patient Care Technicians assist with a goal ratio of 1 : 8, flexing up to 1 : 12-18 when necessary.

Duties for RN's include performing EKGs and being able to provide support therapy with Bipap and Cpap as needed.

Shifts are scheduled as 0700-1930 and 1900-0730.

Self-scheduling is allowed, and block scheduling can be accommodated as long as unit needs are met.

Travelers are expected to work every other weekend.

Holiday rotation is required for permanent staff; travelers may need to work holidays based on unit needs.

Floating may occur based on unit staffing requirements, but assignments will align with their skills.

Scrub color required is royal blue; specific scrub jackets may be worn.

Teamwork is emphasized, with a fast-paced environment that includes high discharge and admission rates.

RN's are encouraged to ask for assistance if feeling overwhelmed with admissions and discharges.

Unit staff includes a unit clerk to support daily operations.

Cancellation policy allows for two shift cancellations per 13-week assignment and one shift cancellation for shorter assignments.

Charting system used is EPIC.
