Patient Care Technician

Under supervision of the RN, serves as an integral member of the health care team by performing clerical and patient care assignments as delegated and permitted by law and regulatory bodies and institutional policies and procedures. This position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and service appropriate to the age of the patients served in his / her assigned area. This position performs EKG testing according to defined protocol and ensures timely download of EKG machines as appropriate. This position accurately performs patient registration including the gathering and input of demographic and payer information.

Pay Range : $16.88 - $23.64 / hour

Employment Type : Full Time, 72 hours every 2 weeks

Schedule : Monday - Friday varied shifts 7 : 00 am - 5 : 30 pm and 10 : 00 am - 8 : 30 pm, no weekends, no holidays

Requirements : High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required or proof of higher education, BLS for the Healthcare Provider by 60 days after hire required

Patient Care

• Assists in the delivery of direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and receives written and / or verbal assignments and direction.
• Documents patient care activities and patient data accurately using appropriate documentation forms and / or information systems.
• Performs required clinical skills including but not limited to : Vital sign measurement; aseptic technique; specimen collection; hot and cold applications; simple respiratory therapy; post mortem care; ostomy care; and, application of orthopedic devices.
• Performs patient care tasks related to activities of daily living such as bathing, feeding, hair, skin, and oral care.
• Completes assigned patient duties within the time-frame established by the Registered Nurse.
• Gathers data including but not limited to : Intake; output; vital signs; patient height and weight; and, point-of-care test results.
• Assists with admission, transfer, or discharge of patients.
• Observes patients carefully for changes and reports in a timely manner.
• Performs EKG testing according to defined protocol, ensures timely download of EKG machines and documents on appropriate log sheet.
