Overview
Staff Structural Substation Engineer - BESS. This position focuses on the design of structures and foundations for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facilities, helping make the energy grid more resilient and accommodating of renewable energy sources.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute structural analysis, perform calculations, and prepare sketches and drawings for the design of supporting structures and foundations for BESS equipment and other energy infrastructure.
- Support fast-paced EPC projects by generating project-specific specifications and assisting with the procurement process.
- Supervise structural engineers (US and overseas offices) and work with structural technicians in preparation of structural drawings and specifications. Lead production teams and serve as the responsible charge for projects.
- Perform construction phase engineering duties such as site visits, responding to RFIs, and review of contractor submittals.
- Perform project administrative tasks, including design fee estimates, monitoring progress against budget and schedule, management of project changes, and adherence to Black & Veatch Quality Control requirements.
- Coordinate work with other discipline engineers.
- Lead the structural efforts on EPC projects with construction values of up to $50M.
- Provide guidance on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and policies; assist in developing, maintaining, and updating engineering standards; provide technical guidance to others.
- Support continuous improvement efforts and provide direction to others.
Preferred Qualifications
Active PE LicenseProficiency using 3D structural analysis and design software (e.g., RISA-3D, STAADPro) for steel and concrete designPrevious structural experience in the utility, energy, renewables, or related fieldsStrong communication skills with internal teams and external clients and construction teamsMinimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelors degree in engineering from an accredited program and a minimum of 5 years related work experience.
Certifications
Most positions typically require professional registration or licensure in the designated home country, or active pursuit of such registration.
Work Environment
