Northern Trust Asset Management Data Product Manager

Role Summary

Northern Trust Asset Management (NTAM) is an over a trillion dollar investment management firm entrusted by investors around the globe to help them navigate changing market environments, so they can confidently realize their long-term objectives.

NTAM has embarked on an ambitious plan to modernize its data and analytics capabilities and embed a data-driven culture throughout the organization. NTAM is creating better ways of consuming, producing, delivering, and managing data to help ourselves and our clients to become more efficient in their Data Management Practices.

The focus is on building foundational data products and capability by taking a customer first approach to instill trust in our data, generate insight, and deliver the best client experience. This role ensures that we enable our internal customers to have the right data assets through a domain-based approach and to enable users to self-serve and drive data-driven decisions. The role is also responsible for managing a team of product owners and data analysts.

Duties and Responsibilities

Build a world-class data products capability in the asset management space. Responsibilities include :

  • Define the data product roadmap, including the long-term vision and strategy for data products.
  • Manage and mentor a team of data analysts and product owners.
  • Be a hands-on leader and work on breaking down product requirements into epics, features, and stories.
  • Actively work on managing product backlogs, providing functional oversight of the scrum work on a daily basis and facilitate business stakeholder adoption.
  • Act as a SME for asset management data for the scrum team and for the broader data & technology teams.
  • Collaborate closely with others in NTAM to build a high-performing data product team, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the team's success in delivering high-quality data products, while promoting a collaborative and innovative culture within the team.
  • Drive product development and delivery : Oversee the end-to-end product development lifecycle.
  • Support, challenge, and continually evolve our data strategy while defining our approach to data that will support the business in meeting its strategic priorities over time.
  • Develop and build strategic relationships with external parties to ensure the definition and delivery of analytics is future-proofed and in line with industry best practices.
  • Encourage the entire business to be customer-focused and data-led to drive cultural change.
  • Set up a culture of knowledge-sharing across Northern Trust.
  • Leverage Northern Trust's data expertise to proactively challenge and influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Effectively drive cross-functional collaboration to ensure success in delivering the data strategy.
  • Perform launches and post launch assessments / recommendations.

Necessary Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience working within Asset Management space, with broad exposure to data sets across asset classes, vehicles, and across functions such as operations, investments, performance, risk, and distribution.
  • Experience managing a data team and with the proven ability to work across matrixed org structures.
  • Proven track record of successful innovation and product launches.
  • Prior exposure or experience in the Data Management and the Data Products space.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL and / or Python.
  • Hands-on experience with data analysis, mapping, data quality, and business intelligence.
  • Proven experience in a role which requires networking, partnership building, and credibility development internally and externally to an organization.
  • Demonstrated thought leadership through public speaking, sales pitches, or demonstrations.
  • The successful candidate will be able to evidence the following in the first 6 months :
  • 3 Months : Expand the product proposition of NTAM's centralized data warehouse, fully integrate with the product scrum teams, able to drive the product requirements and prioritization with the business. The successful candidate will play a hands-on role to drive the next stage of product growth and maturity.
  • 6 Months+ : Start to embed product success metrics, run product demo sessions with internal clients to show continuous, measurable evolution of building data products.
  • Necessary Experience and Education

  • 15+ years of experience in Data, Asset Management Data Domain, 5+ in Product Management is a must.
  • At least 10+ years in asset management / investment management.
  • Experience in data sourcing and understanding of the third party datasets available in the asset management space.
  • Bachelors degree in field like Math, Data Science, Engineering, Statistics, Finance (with focus on analysis), etc.; MBA or Masters in related field preferred but not required.
  • Salary Range :

    $137,400 - 240,400 USD
