Overview :
The Construction Safety Intern will assist the Safety Department in supporting field operations and promoting a strong culture of safety across all job sites. This role provides practical, hands-on experience in occupational health and safety management within the heavy civil construction industry, working directly with field supervisors, subcontractors, and project managers to maintain compliance and ensure safe work environments.
Key Responsibilities :
- Assist with daily and weekly job site safety inspections across multiple project locations
- Observe and document field operations to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and site-specific safety plans
- Support Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), toolbox talks, and pre-task safety planning
- Help track and organize safety documentation, training records, and inspection reports
- Participate in incident investigations and assist with corrective action tracking
- Monitor subcontractor compliance with Waters safety policies and project requirements
- Support implementation of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives and reporting
- Conduct and record PPE audits and assist in maintaining safety equipment inventory
- Collaborate with field engineers and superintendents to promote safe work practices
Qualifications & Skills :
Pursuing a degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, or Construction ManagementStrong interest in workplace safety and construction risk managementFamiliarity with OSHA 29 CFR 1926 standards a plusExcellent organizational, observational, and communication skillsAbility to work both independently and as part of a field-based teamValid drivers license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel to job sites across ConnecticutWhat Youll Gain :
