Position Title : Café Manager
Reports to : Director of Common Grounds Training Program and Social Enterprises
Background : Manna on Main Street is a comprehensive hunger relief organization dedicated to providing essential services to individuals and families facing food insecurity. Based in Lansdale, Manna on Main Street operates a food pantry, soup kitchen and workforce development program, all designed to support and empower people in need. Manna on Main Street plays a vital role in the North Penn community, not only by addressing immediate needs through its food pantry and soup kitchen, but also by fostering long-term change through its free workforce development program, Common Grounds Training Program.
Job Purpose : As part of the Common Grounds training program students participate in multiple social enterprises, including the Common Grounds Café. The Café Manager contributes to and supports all aspects of the café, including operational procedures, menu development and vendor relationships. They work closely with Common Grounds Training Program adult trainees, serving as a teacher and role model and training them in basic café food preparation and customer service skills.
Education / Experience :
- 3-5 years of experience in a café / catering setting; 1+ years in a supervisory role
- Inventory management experience
- POS systems experience
- Formal culinary training or equivalent preferred
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation principles with a valid ServSafe Manager or equivalent certification
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Direct day-to-day operation of the café, supervise café trainees and volunteers to ensure core front-of-house competencies are being followed, and ensure highest level of food quality, taste and presentation.Develop and maintain operational procedures and café menu.Maintain POS system and train café staff, trainees and volunteers in its use.Maintain café par levels by communicating production and ordering needs daily.Responsible for daily cash management and monthly sales reports.Maintain goals for the café, anticipate and resolve problems concerning all facets of the café, and enact approved profit-oriented and cost saving ideas / activities.Assist in production and execution of catering orders as needed.Establish and require strict adherence to county health department sanitation and food handling standards.Provide hands-on training with trainees on core food service and front-of- house competencies in the café.Regularly complete formal assessments of trainees and interns.Professional and Personal Requirements and Qualifications :
