Museum Complexes Maintenance Supervisor
This is a full-time position located at the Office State Museums. The purpose of this position is to ensure that the museum complexes and adjacent grounds are maintained in a clean, orderly, and safe condition. This position is trained for the proper use of chemicals and cleaning equipment. This position supervises and trains outside contracts and volunteers with the museum's cleaning procedures and protocol making sure that they adhere to Museum Standards. This position has to perform daily duties that expose them to the public in and around the museum complexes, many times dealing with blood borne pathogens.

Minimum Qualifications
Six months of experience in custodial, housekeeping, groundskeeping, or food service work.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties :
- Performs daily, any and all, custodial duties to maintain sanitary conditions in the museums and adjacent areas.
- Clean the museum's exhibit areas, restrooms, kitchens, office spaces, and any other assigned areas by sweeping, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, and polishing (without disturbing the artifacts and items on display in the exhibits).
- Resolves safety hazards, complete walk throughs of the museum complexes, and report any and all broken, damaged, or not-working items. If any safety issue is found, barricade or rope-off area and report immediately to supervision.
- Pick up, empty, disinfect, and dispose all trash and debris in the trash containers and place in the dumpsters provided.
- Clean, disinfect, and stock restrooms at intervals throughout the day to keep up with the flow of visitors and guests visiting the museums.
- Operates vacuums for cleaning carpeted areas throughout the museum.
- Provides feedback on materials and supplies performance.
- Performs customer service to a high standard of excellence (answering questions, guiding visitors and guests to the proper locations and / or staff that can help with answers when necessary.)
- Performs cleaning of blood borne pathogens / must be able to mix cleaning agents and know protocol and procedures of how to clean properly.
- Maintain an inventory of supplies and materials needed to complete museum tasks; report to supervisor when any equipment or supplies are needed to avoid downtime.
- Coordinate with administration for purchase of cleaning supplies and replacement items to keep adequate stock on hand.
- Train caterers and outside contractors of museum policies as to cleanliness of the museum procedures during events and functions (reminding them of trash responsibilities; cleaning products that can and cannot be used inside the museum complex.)
- Train and notify outside vendors of SDS sheets and locations in the event of an emergency.
- Train and notify outside vendors of the museum's policies for cleaning in and around artifacts and paintings.
- Complete daily inspections of all equipment and report any items that need to be replaced to supervision (plumbing, lighting, A / C, etc.) throughout the museum complex.
- Performs quality control checks to ensure museum standards are being met.
- Performs walk through of museum exhibit areas and notifies curatorial staff of any artifacts, labels, lighting, or damage to any museum exhibits or artifacts in a timely manner.
- Accepts personal responsibility for security of designated facilities.
- Trains in proper chemical and equipment usage and proper facility maintenance.
- Ensures and executes all established safety requirements according to museum policy.
- Reports to work on time and is duty-ready, as scheduled.
- May be required to stoop, bend, climb or balance, kneel, crouch, sit, and stand on a daily basis as part of the job duties.
- Lift and / or carry 45 pounds including equipment and machinery, as part of the job duties.
- Be willing to perform other job duties as assigned.
Position-Specific Details : Appointment Type : This is a classified probational appointment; current permanent status employees may be required to accept a probational appointment. Work Schedule : The State Museum complexes are open to the public at various times throughout the week; this position may be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. This position may be required to travel between the State Museum complexes in New Orleans. Location : State Museum in New Orleans, LA.
