Posting expires : October 25, 2025 Salary : $51,035 - $68,132 General Description and Classification Standards : Performs skilled inspections of linear water and wastewater related infrastructure construction projects and operations and maintenance work. Contributes as part of a team to inspect, maintain, and operate water mains and associated appurtenances and / or sewer conveyance systems and appurtenances; assists with traffic control in public rights-of-way in certain instances. Inspects and monitors construction projects to ensure that work is being done according to applicable plans and specifications. Conducts inspections; reviews plans; maintains records and files; prepares drawings; prepares reports; and investigates problems. May provide direction or lead a small team of junior-level employees under supervision of the Area Superintendent, manager, or other senior-level professional. Supervision Received : Performs work under general supervision with review and advice from manager or a senior level professional. May work independently or with other workers with responsibility for completion of assigned tasks. Essential Duties and Responsibilities : These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Performs inspections on various types of water distribution infrastructure to ensure compliance with federal, state, and city codes, ordinances, and regulations. Assesses or inspects work by operations and maintenance crews or construction contractors on buried water and wastewater infrastructure. Maintains records and logs and updates field notes, drawings, and other documentation on a daily basis. Reads, understands, and interprets construction plans, sketches, plat cards, GIS maps, engineering reports, and other records to investigate and resolve infrastructure issues, construct buried water and wastewater infrastructure and resolve customer complaints. Observes construction and assists with resolution of construction-related issues. Uses specialized equipment to collect data and diagnose issues for water distribution systems and / or sewer collection and conveyance systems. Keeps managers and other stakeholders informed of any changes in policies, methods, and operational protocols pertaining to department construction operations. Records and maintains daily records of activities, including personnel, equipment, location information, and materials. Reviews construction plans and specifications, contract documents, plat cards, and other documents as necessary to monitor projects and ensure conformance with rules, regulations, and guidelines. Maintains accurate records of material usage, reviews and verifies requests for payments / invoices, and performs other duties as necessary to ensure accurate payment to contractors. Prepares as-built drawings due to field changes. Provides accurate data to update plat cards when needed. Prepares reports, memos, and other documents; develops and maintains related files. Reviews proposal construction documents for potential rewriting and city compliance. Communicates effectively with departmental personnel, management and outside professionals. Provides information to upper management about the status of shutdowns, water restorations from main break repairs and low pressure situation resolutions. Coordinates work activities between contractors, engineers, site operations and project manager. Conducts on-site inspections to ensure construction work is performed in conformance with specifications and plans. Attends pre-construction, progress, and other meetings as necessary to monitor construction projects. Ability to perform less complex engineering calculations and computations.Minimum Qualifications : Education and Experience – 1. Associate’s degree in Engineering or Building Construction, or related field; (Additional years of experience may be considered as a substitute for the required degree on an exceptional basis, with a minimum of five (5) years of professional related experience in surveying, construction, or engineering). 2. Three (3) years experience in surveying, construction, or engineering; Licensures and Certifications – Valid Georgia driver’s license. Preferred Requirements – None.
