Academic Librarian (Instruction & Outreach) Central Texas College Killeen, TX
This job performs complex tasks requiring independent judgment and action. Ability to deliver instruction on a variety of electronic learning resources, in both a virtual environment and in the classroom. This includes recommending and interpreting information sources, creating research guides, and teaching effective research methodology.
Promote library resources through outreach efforts to ensure worldwide and local knowledge of library support services. Program dynamic collaborative library events for Central Texas College and the surrounding community.
Minimum Required Education
A Master’s degree in the field of Library Science from a from a nationally or regionally accredited university with a program accredited by the American Library Association.
Minimum Required Experience
Experience working in a secondary level educational environment. Supervisory experience preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Conducts reference interviews, answers reference questions and provides other research assistance.
- Extensive knowledge of development, teaching, and assessing information and literacy instruction, virtually and in-person.
- Initiate and lead projects and proposals and bring them to closure.
- Proficient and comfortable using, learning, and teaching new technologies that help connect users to library resources and programs.
- Ability to coordinate and supervise staff.
- Clear and effective oral and written communication.
- Maintains confidentiality of all information.
Essential Job Functions :
Assists in the coordination of the library’s reference services, including working reference desk, providing online reference support, and participating in the library’s paper review service.Supports the library’s information literacy program to include coordinating curriculum and assist in the scheduling and planning of seminars.Trains support staff in the reference interview, basic information sources, and the referral model.Promote library resources and services through outreach mechanisms to ensure worldwide and local knowledge of the library.Design and update user guides (online / electronic and print) to improve access and use of information including, but not limited to, the navigation of databases, style and format guides, subject and course-specific guides, copyright, and plagiarism.Assist in collection development management by reviewing, evaluating, and recommending new materials, as well as evaluating and weeding materials.Maintains accurate statistics for Instruction Services.Participates in college committees and special projects.Performs other duties as required or approved by the Dean of Library Services.Hours
Full-time, indicate working hours - M-Thur 7 : 30-5 : 30, Fr 7 : 30-11 : 30, Other - Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, and travel to CTC Texas sites, as required.
