POSITION SUMMARY :
The Lead Clinician is responsible for supervising the professional practice of the Clinicians by leading, supporting, mentoring, providing ongoing training and monitoring clinical performance. Maintains proficiency in all clinical procedures. Provides direct care to patients. Works closely with the Director of Quality & Compliance and under the clinical direction of the Medical Director to ensure that all clinicians perform at a standard of excellence and in accordance with clinical policies and procedures. Works closely with the Health Care Operations department to ensure that the health care offered by Planned Parenthood South Texas (PPST) meets the operating standards of any oversight body including, but not limited to CLIA, OSHA, DSHS and the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA). In the execution of all job responsibilities, the Lead Clinician ensures an exceptional patient experience for every patient, every time. In so doing, the Lead Clinician also helps PPST fulfill its mission to provide and protect the health care and information people need to plan their families and their futures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
1. Works with the Senior Director of Clinical Services (SDCS) and the Medical Director to create and maintain a standard for the delivery of clinical care that is characterized by excellence, privacy and respect for the patient, her / his health and her / his dignity.
2. Maintains proficiency in all clinical procedures to effectively perform such procedures and successfully train Clinicians.
3. Provides direct medical care to patients in a way that is exemplary and serves as a role model for all clinicians, as well as being consistent with Planned Parenthood medical standards & guidelines.
4. As part of the hiring team, assists in recruitment & selection process of Clinicians in order to maintain a staffing pattern that effectively delivers excellent medical care.
5. Works with the Medical Director to supervise the professional practice of all Clinicians (including, but not limited to monitoring technique, proficiency, quality of care, outcomes and compliance with productivity standards and medical protocol) by observing Clinicians in the performance of their duties.
6. Assists the Director of Quality & Compliance in a continuous quality improvement project, including but not limited to all quality assurance and risk management procedures, CLIA guidelines and OSHA regulations.
7. Provides input to the Medical Director and the SDCS to assist in establishing and maintaining the medication formulary.
8. Assists the Medical Director and the Director of Quality & Compliance to provide quality monitoring of medical outcomes throughout the clinics to ensure appropriate follow-up and handling of any problem finding or unusual circumstances (including but not limited to quality assurance projects and chart reviews).
9. Keeps current regarding the content of sexual and reproductive health information and the clinical practices and procedures that govern the delivery of medical services therein.
10. Documents patient information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) in a complete and accurate manner, while also ensuring effective use of EMR by all clinicians .
11. Complies and enforces the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) as amended to ensure the privacy of protected health information (PHI / ePHI) in the execution of all job duties. Takes immediate action when a potential breach has occurred.
12. Assists the SDCS in the provision / coordination of medical training for clinic staff.
13. Makes recommendations to the Medical Director and the SDCS regarding medical policy for the organization.
14. Leads efforts to achieve established goals for productivity.
15. Identifies and participates in activities that increase productivity and reduce cost.
16. Leads efforts to achieve established revenue cycle goals.
17. Participates in regulatory and certification review processes.
18. Attends meetings and participates on committees as requested.
19. Performs other work-related duties and assignments as needed.
20. Complies with the organizations Workplace & Customer Service Standards, which are a required part of the Organizations orientation, training and performance.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Education : Texas licensed RN with completion of a certificate program or a Masters program as a Nurse Practitioner or completion of an AMA accredited Physician Assistant program is required.
Experience : At least five years experience in family planning, womens health or sexual and reproductive health is required. At least three years supervisory experience of health care professionals strongly preferred. Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience is strongly preferred.
