Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) student support services for the Experimental Learning / Activities at Oregon State University ( OSU ). The ASOSU reporter is responsible for researching, pitching and writing news stories for The Barometer covering student government and the student fee process.

Position Duties
Attend, report and follow up on ASOSU and SFC meetings. This includes Senate meetings, public hearings, and Student Fee Committee events.Connect and build relationships with ASOSU and SFC officers and professional staff to develop stories. This could include ASOSU president, vice president, senators, advisers and student fee committee members.Meet with student government stakeholders in person or via email, phone or Zoom a minimum of once each week to develop story ideas.Write at least two stories per week for The Barometer. Content should be varied and should include stories such as meeting previews and recaps, explaining legislation, covering elections, profiles, in-depth issues, investigations, breaking news and more.Develop one or more additional story pitches for weekly cohort meetings.Work with photographers and designers to enhance content through photos, graphics and multimedia.Bring information and learning gained from working with individuals and communities to share with The Barometer.Attend all cohort meetings as required by editor(s) in chief; communicate attendance plans in advance.Able to act as mentor to new hires.Provide fair and accurate coverage.Participate in readouts with editors to make any necessary revisions in style or content. Communicate any errors and corrections to editor-in-chief.Act in a professional manner at all times and create and maintain collegial working relationships with fellow student leaders and organization members.Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of studyMust meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employmentMust meet the applicable minimal enrollment standardHigh School student : Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student : 6 credit hours per termUndergraduate international student : 12 credit hours per termGraduate student officially admitted to Graduate School : 5 credit hours per termGraduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School : 9 credit hours per termInternational students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services ( USCIS ).
