Responsibilities

  • Perform DB2 upgrades, migrate from older version to newer version DB2, review enhancements and activate the function level, and make online and offline system parameter (DSNZPARMs) changes.
  • Apply SMP / E RSU maintenance process (Receive / Apply / Accept / Restore) and maintenance through SMP / E.
  • Install and manage DB2 and associated third party products.
  • Configure and manage DB2 in a parallel sysplex environment.
  • Develop innovation, strategies, processes and best practices in software management.
  • Coordinate with application team for design related issues and object changes.
  • Ensure DR (Disaster Recovery) readiness and adhere to process and security compliance.
  • Work with Online utilities : Run Reorgs, unload, load and Runstats, Backup and Recovery of table spaces (copy & recover), Repair, Load / Unload utilities and troubleshooting restricted objects to RW.
  • Ensure integrity, availability and performance of DB2 database systems by providing technical support and maintenance.
  • Ability to craft and alter DB2 objects according to customer requirements (e.g., Database, Tablespace, Table, Index, etc.).
  • Generate performance reports when required, run EXPLAIN for identified queries, and perform SQL tuning as needed.
  • Monitor application threads, tune SQL queries, and modify queries for better performance.
  • Install third-party tools in DB2, apply maintenance, and provide support for those tools.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production database issues.
  • Hands-on experience with DB2 command interface (stop / start databases, display command, cancel thread, and term utility).
  • Proficient in stand-alone utilities : DSNJU003 and DSNJU004, DSNJ003 to change DB2 BSDS; DSNJU004 to print BSDS. Trained with DSN1COPY.
  • Provide grants to users for appropriate groups / authorities; familiar with DB2 privileges.
  • Working knowledge of SQL; ability to query catalog tables to find necessary details for system usage.
  • Experience with replication from Mainframe to other RDBMS is a plus.
  • Experience with tools like Log Analyzer, BMC Apptune, Catalog / Change Manager, BMC utilities, CA SYSVIEW for DB2, QMF, and Omegamon is an advantage.

Qualifications

  • Experience with DB2 database administration, maintenance, and performance tuning.
  • Strong knowledge of SMP / E maintenance and DSNZPARMs management.
  • Experience in Disaster Recovery planning and execution.
  • Proficiency with DB2 command-line utilities and related third-party tools.
  • Ability to work in a parallel sysplex environment and manage complex DB2 configurations.
