Park Maintenance Worker I
Under general supervision, maintain cultivated public areas and construct / repair park facilities; performs related duties as required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is the entry level class in which incumbents learn park maintenance tasks or may performs primarily custodial work; generally works under more supervision than the higher levels.

Qualifications
Education and / or Experience : One year of experience performing routine grounds maintenance or custodial work or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities. Knowledge of : Grounds maintenance methods and techniques; plants, flowers, and shrubs; operation and maintenance of tools and equipment used in grounds maintenance. Ability to : Learn and apply grounds keeping and park maintenance techniques and methods; operate power tools and equipment; make minor repairs to equipment; follow verbal instructions; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; work safely and efficiently.

Special Requirements : Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California Driver's License may be required, depending on assignment for Park Maintenance Worker I. Possession of a Pesticide Applicator Certification may be required.
Selection : Screening will consist of a competitive assessment of relevant education, training and work experience to be followed by an interview before an Oral Board to determine the most qualified candidates. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement to the interview, and the decision of the screening committee is final. Applicants will receive electronic notification regarding results for all phases of the recruitment up to the establishment of the eligibility list, if applicable. Candidates will be notified of the date and time of scheduled interviews and / or tests.
