Base pay range

$110,000.00 / yr - $120,000.00 / yr

Insight Global is seeking a talented Controls Engineer to join our client in the industrial and process control systems integration industry. This role is based in Chesapeake, VA, and is a permanent, direct-hire opportunity. The Controls Engineer will work on projects from initial planning through field installation and commissioning, primarily within the Water-Wastewater and Manufacturing sectors.

Responsibilities :

  • Design Automation Control Systems : Develop systems based on customer specifications.
  • Programming : Create and implement automation and control systems involving PLCs and HMIs.
  • Specification : Select electrical equipment and materials, including PLCs, automation control components, and instrumentation.
  • Drawing Development : Produce electrical and P&ID drawings.
  • Troubleshooting : Resolve hardware and software issues.
  • SCADA Systems : Design and debug Data Acquisition systems.
  • System Calibration : Power-up, debug, and calibrate control systems for Water / Wastewater, automotive, and manufacturing industries.
  • Standardization : Follow company processes and support the development of standardized design platforms.
  • PLC Logic and HMI / SCADA Programs : Read, revise, and create new PLC logic, HMI / SCADA programs, and VFD parameters.
  • Regulatory Knowledge : Maintain a working knowledge of industry standards and regulations (NEC, IEEE, NFPA, OSHA, etc.).

Skills / Qualifications :

  • Experience : 4+ years of PLC and HMI / SCADA programming experience.
  • HMI / SCADA Systems : Skilled in programming HMI / SCADA systems (FactoryTalk, Maple, VTSCADA, Wonderware, Ignition, etc.).
  • Industrial Electrical Experience
  • Hands-on experience with troubleshooting, including 480VAC 3-phase, 120 VAC, 24VDC systems, VFDs, and panel design.

  • Automation Controls : Experience identifying, maintaining, troubleshooting, and modifying automation controls, including motor starters, Variable Frequency Drives, and standard electrical components.
  • Travel : Willingness to travel up to 25%, though current project workload requires less.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Instrumentation Experience : Familiarity with process control instrumentation such as flow meters, pressure transmitters, and level transmitters.
  • Emerson Control Wave Experience : Additional expertise in Emerson Control Wave systems is a plus.
  • Seniority level : Mid-Senior level
