Position Overview
This position is accountable for supervising and coordinating the activities, both in-house and consultant, leading to the preparation of studies and plans for the implementation of the District Improvement Program. The incumbent directs the preparation of studies and plans in accordance with departmental policies, procedures, and sound engineering practice.
Responsibilities
- Assures implementation of the district's annual and multi-year program through effective scheduling and monitoring of the completion and approval of studies and plans.
- Synthesizes engineering, sociological, and environmental factors which influence the design of transportation systems.
- Reviews studies and plans prepared in-house and by consultants for proper design applications of policies and procedures.
- Directs, motivates, and supervises personnel.
- Trains and evaluates subordinates and maintains an effective staff and a proper work environment.
- Arranges and conducts public hearings and meetings to provide public involvement in studies.
- Coordinates the presentation of studies to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) at the district bi-monthly coordination meetings.
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois.Five years of experience in civil engineering.Preferred Qualifications
Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering.Ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with departmental staff, consultants and elected officials.Strong oral and / or written communication skills.Conditions of Employment
