Responsibilities Work in a high-acuity Labor and Delivery unit within a hospital setting Patient population includes obstetrical patients 16 weeks and greater for intrapartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum care, as well as high-risk patients under 16 weeks Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 2 : 1 with an average of 20 births in 24 hours and 30–40 admits daily Patients may also include those seen in an obstetrical triage unit for outpatient procedures and fetal surveillance Scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births and rescue cervical cerclage procedures are performed Uses Epic for EMR, Pyxis for medication management, and SBAR communication tools 12-hour night shifts (18 : 45–07 : 15), 36 hours per week, with every other weekend required and a minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule Floating required as needed, including to the Special Maternity Care high risk OB unit and potentially other units or affiliate hospitals based on census and skill set 13–26 week contracts available 24 hours of unit orientation provided Scrubs provided (blue) Responsibilities include circulating in the OR, performing sterile exams, providing newborn care, and supporting antepartum and postpartum patients May be required to precept or orient new staff members on the unit First-time travelers are accepted if they have substantial experience in similar settings Must be comfortable working in a very fast-paced, challenging, and higher-acuity environment than standard L&D units Must work two out of three major holidays and no requested time off during orientation week is permitted RTO is limited; up to 7 days may be auto-approved if not on holidays—no additional RTO after booking is allowed Travel pairs are allowed only if assigned to different units Candidates within 50 miles are considered local and paid at a local rate Requirements Active NC or compact RN license in hand by start date; pending accepted for consideration Minimum of 2 years Labor & Delivery RN experience required, 3 years preferred Current certifications : BCLS, AWHONN Intermediate, and NRP Competency in circulating to the OR, performing sterile vaginal exams, and immediate newborn care required Prior experience with Epic charting required Experience working in a large, high-volume L&D setting required Must submit two professional supervisor references from within the past 12 months by start date Physical ability to manage a demanding, fast-paced work environment Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-616121.
