Main Function
Exciting opportunity to work in an outpatient clinic as a Pediatric Physical Therapist in the southern Finger Lakes region of New York State. This position offers a chance to be part of an excellent Pediatrics Physical Therapy team providing high-quality care to patients in Elmira, NY.
Key Responsibilities
Review requisitions for Physical Therapy and interview patients to evaluate physical condition and needs
Develop and implement specific treatment programs tailored to individual patients
Determine proper equipment use, application, and body position for treatments such as exercise, gait training, soft tissue mobility, whirlpool, hot packs, ultrasound, paraffin, ice packs, electrical stimulation, and traction
Instruct patients on the use of wheelchairs, crutches, canes, braces, and prosthetic appliances
Modify treatment programs based on patient progress and communicate with physicians as needed
Prepare written documentation including evaluation results, treatment plans, progress reports, and discharge summaries
Collaborate with nursing and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care
Provide guidance and direction to staff assisting in patient care
Maintain department policies, procedures, quality initiatives, safety, and infection control
Ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff, following all safety policies and procedures
Assist with department equipment and supply maintenance
Attend required meetings and participate on committees
Assist with patient transport to and from the PT Department as needed
Assume Senior Therapist duties in their absence
Engage in professional growth through education, workshops, and mandatory training
Provide age-appropriate care across all patient groups : neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
Demonstrate excellent patient / customer service skills by interacting with patients in a caring, attentive, and friendly manner
Education and Experience
Must be licensed or eligible to obtain a Physical Therapy license in New York State at the time of hire
Experience in a hospital setting preferred
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire
Physical Demands
Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds independently and up to 150 pounds with assistance
Position may involve repetitive physical effort such as lifting, pushing, or pulling
Exposure Category
Category II : Tasks with no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, but may require occasional unplanned Category I tasks
Infection Control
Adheres to all universal precautions in patient care
