As a Backend Engineer on the Team Chat and Chat Horizontals team, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of workplace collaboration. You’ll design, develop, and scale high-performance backend services and distributed systems that power Zoom, used by millions globally. Collaborating closely with product, design, and engineering teams, you’ll deliver robust and scalable solutions, contribute to architectural decisions, and mentor junior engineers to help them grow. Responsibilities

• Partnering with product management to define technical requirements and translate the roadmap into actionable backend features and deliverables.
• Designing and implementing highly available, low-latency backend services and APIs supporting real-time collaboration.
• Architecting and building distributed systems using Java, Spring Boot, and microservice patterns.
• Developing and optimizing RESTful APIs and data pipelines for scalability, observability, and maintainability.
• Leading the design and implementation of cloud-based infrastructure and deployment strategies using AWS services (e.g., EC2, ECS, S3, ElasticCache, Lambda).
• Implementing robust monitoring, alerting, and metrics to drive data-informed decision-making and ensure platform reliability.
• Collaborating with DevOps and SRE teams to enhance CI / CD pipelines, improve automation, and support continuous delivery.
• Mentoring and guiding junior engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.

What we’re looking for

Salary and Information

Salary Range or On Target Earnings :

Minimum : $98,900.00

Maximum : $228,700.00

In addition to the base salary and / or OTE listed Zoom has a Total Direct Compensation philosophy that takes into consideration base salary, bonus and equity value.

Note : Starting pay will be based on a number of factors and commensurate with qualifications & experience.

We also have a location based compensation structure; there may be a different range for candidates in this and other locations.
