American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Stepdown / Intermediate Care Unit assignment requiring a WV or compact RN license and strong telemetry skills.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Position is in the Intermediate Care Unit (IMU), a 30-bed stepdown unit in an acute care hospital settingPatient population includes chest pain, CHF, arrhythmias, post-pacer, pre / post caths, and intermediate care patientsNurse-to-patient ratios typically 1 : 5 with occasional 1 : 6, and charge nurses take patient assignments12-hour rotating day / night shifts with weekend requirements and self-scheduling optionsAll staff are required to float as needed to Tele or MedSurg units, and potentially to a Pandemic UnitUnit uses Sunrise (Allscripts) EMR systemNihon Kohden telemetry monitors are used, and RNs must read and interpret their own stripsCommon IV infusions titrated include Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Labetolol, Nitro, and HeparinRN must be able to manage a variety of cardiac and medical patients at an intermediate care acuityUnit staff includes clinical assistants and CNAs to support nursing careHospitalist in-house 24 / 7; IV, RT, and pharmacy teams also in-house 24 / 7Scrub requirement is navy blue top and bottom with navy scrub jacket; hoodies not permittedHoliday coverage may be required but typically filled by permanent staffFloat assignments may involve higher patient ratios, especially if floating to MedSurgFirst-day orientation includes time with HR and unit preceptors, followed by two days on unit orientationApplicants previously employed at WVU Medicine must have a 2-year break before returning as travelers and cannot work within WVU facilities for longer than a year without a 2-year break\n \n Requirements\n
