American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Stepdown / Intermediate Care Unit assignment requiring a WV or compact RN license and strong telemetry skills.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

  • Position is in the Intermediate Care Unit (IMU), a 30-bed stepdown unit in an acute care hospital setting
  • Patient population includes chest pain, CHF, arrhythmias, post-pacer, pre / post caths, and intermediate care patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1 : 5 with occasional 1 : 6, and charge nurses take patient assignments
  • 12-hour rotating day / night shifts with weekend requirements and self-scheduling options
  • All staff are required to float as needed to Tele or MedSurg units, and potentially to a Pandemic Unit
  • Unit uses Sunrise (Allscripts) EMR system
  • Nihon Kohden telemetry monitors are used, and RNs must read and interpret their own strips
  • Common IV infusions titrated include Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Labetolol, Nitro, and Heparin
  • RN must be able to manage a variety of cardiac and medical patients at an intermediate care acuity
  • Unit staff includes clinical assistants and CNAs to support nursing care
  • Hospitalist in-house 24 / 7; IV, RT, and pharmacy teams also in-house 24 / 7
  • Scrub requirement is navy blue top and bottom with navy scrub jacket; hoodies not permitted
  • Holiday coverage may be required but typically filled by permanent staff
  • Float assignments may involve higher patient ratios, especially if floating to MedSurg
  • First-day orientation includes time with HR and unit preceptors, followed by two days on unit orientation
  • Applicants previously employed at WVU Medicine must have a 2-year break before returning as travelers and cannot work within WVU facilities for longer than a year without a 2-year break

  • Active WV or compact RN license required prior to assignment
  • Minimum of 2 years RN experience required
  • Certifications required : BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Proficiency in strip interpretation and titration of specified cardiac drips required
  • Must be able to work rotating 12-hour day and night shifts, including weekends
  • Must provide a valid, unexpired driver's license for consideration
  • Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify
  • Completion of EKG assessment required prior to start
